What is Echo360?

Echo360 is the video streaming platform for UNCW faculty, staff, and students. You can use this platform to store your video or audio files and even your Zoom (cloud-based video conferencing tool) recordings.

Getting Started with Echo360 Checklist

Within the "Helpful Tutorials" section below, you will find additional resources to help you get started with Echo360 but here is a quick checklist of the tasks you will need to do to access Echo360 at UNCW successfully:

Step 1: Browser Check ✅

Step 2: Echo360 Account Activation 💻

You will need to set up your account by logging into your Office 365 account in order for your account to connect with your UNCW credentials.
To set up your account:

- Step 1: You will first need to log in to mySeaport and sign in with your UNCW credentials.
- Step 2: Under the "Apps" column within mySeaport, click "Office Home".
- Step 3: Click "Sign in" to sign in with your UNCW credentials.
- Step 4: Click on the waffle icon at the top left of your screen:
- Step 5: Click on “More apps”.
- Step 6: Click "All apps":
- Step 7: Scroll down to the "Other Apps" section and click "Show all".
- Step 8: Scroll down and locate “Echo 360”.
- Step 9: Now, to activate your account, all you have to do is click the “Echo 360” link.

You have successfully activated your Echo360 account when you see your Echo360 library.

You will only have to do this process once. Once your account is created, you will just need to go to www.echo360.org to access your Echo 360 account. You will be required to put in your UNCW credentials when you go to echo360.org.

Step 3: Uploading a Video to the Echo360 library 📽️

When recording your videos, feel free to use any video capture software that best suit your needs. If you are looking for UNCW-support recording tool, we recommend using Zoom. At UNCW, there is a unique Zoom link for UNCW faculty, staff, and students. To use your full UNCW Zoom license you have to go to "uncw.zoom.us" not "zoom.us". When signing in or activating your Zoom account, please use the following link: https://uncw.zoom.us/.

If you are using Zoom, the storage in Zoom is limited by UNCW and each recording is deleted after 120 days. To prevent losing any recordings, please use your Echo360 account to store and share all recordings, where storage is unlimited and will never be deleted.

Zoom and Echo360 are integrated at UNCW. This means any time you record a Zoom meeting to the cloud, it will automatically save a copy of the recording in your Echo360 library.

For your Zoom recordings to save automatically in your Echo360 library, you must have your Echo360 account activated before you start your Zoom meeting. If you already have an Echo360 account, then you are good to go.

Things to Consider

To save yourself from some technical headaches, here are some things to keep in mind when using Echo360:

Tip 1: Always go to directly to echo360.org 🎯

To view your Echo360 library, please go directly to echo360.org. You are not unable to access your entire Echo360 library in Canvas. The Echo360 link located on the course navigation in Canvas is only for connecting an Echo360 course (playlist).

Tip 2: Verification that Zoom recording settings are compatible with Echo360? ☁️

When you record your Zoom meeting to the cloud, Zoom will automatically send a copy of your recordings to your Echo360 library (For this to work, you will have an Echo360 account):

- Step 1: Please go to uncw.zoom.us to login to your Zoom account with your UNCW credentials.
- Step 2: Click “Settings” on the side navigation bar:

- Step 4: Verify that the “Record active speaker, gallery view and shared screen separately” is NOT checked:

Tip 3: Review and Share the Privacy Policy ⚠️

When using technology in your course, it is essential to review and share the privacy policy with your students.

Tip 3: Closed Captioning ♿

All your videos and audio files must be captioned when sharing videos and audio within your course. Captioning is not just about compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. It is all about making your content inclusive, which will enhance learning and allow for a significant number of students with diverse learning needs to access a variety of media content.

As part of UNCW's commitment to providing accessible course material, UNCW Distance Education and eLearning offers FREE closed captioning and transcription services for your course video and audio files in English and many other languages. To begin the captioning process, you must first submit a CC request to the DEeL team.
