Biochemical and Evolutionary Analysis of Chalcone Isomerase-like Proteins (CHIL) from Monocot and Dicot Plants

Abstract

MTCHIL, MPCHIL, and OSCHIL all share a common ancestor (ancCC). CHIL proteins are closely related to the Chalcone isomerase (CHI) enzymes, granting them the name CHI-like, or CHIL. These enzymes are key in the biosynthesis of plant flavonoids – metabolites involved in plant structure, color, defense, and reproduction. Our research is based on the analysis of these proteins.
